Youth Ministry
Sunday School
Mark your calendar and get ready for some fun! Sunday School classes will start with the Sunday worship service on Rally Day, September 15. Our Sunday School for students in Kindergarten through 7th grade uses the multi-age curriculum, Feasting on the Word, which parallels the Bible readings used in the worship service. We are blessed with caring teachers who delight in sharing the message of God’s love with our children. From Rally Day in September until Youth Sunday in June, children head to their Sunday School classroom during our 10 a.m. worship service, except on the first Sunday of the month, when they attend the Communion service with their families. Service Projects
In 1990, Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group:
“Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those without a bowl of soup to eat.”
Since then, more than $170 million has been generated for local charities across the country through Souper Bowl of Caring. It has become a powerful movement of
God’s Grace that transforms the time around the Big Game into the nation’s largest celebration of giving and caring for those in need.
Through this mission, people learn they can make a positive difference in the world as they collect food, raise money and serve at hunger-relief charities and show
caring and compassion in local communities across the country.
Share in God’s love for our neighbors in need and give generously on Souper Bowl Sunday. All of the donations collected will go directly to our Souper Bowl of Caring
Charity of Choice: Food Bank of the Hudson Valley
Our Sunday School has participated for over 20 years in the Souper Bowl of Caring.. In 2022, we surpassed our fundraising goal and collected a record $1,245 + 40 items for the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley.
We will begin collecting for 2025 starting in January via the online link above and at our church service on Super Bowl Sunday, February 2025.
Heifer International
Baa, oink, quack-quack and thanks! With your generous help, our Sunday School class raised over $500 for Heifer International, a non-profit which provides farming and entrepreneurship training worldwide to fight hunger and poverty while caring for the Earth. For the 2023-24 school year, the children voted again to donate their weekly offerings to Heifer International.
Special Events
Our children enjoy Christmas Pageants, Youth Sunday and other special events throughout the year.
Narnia Night
February 2024, daughters of Eve and Sons of Adam of any age were invited to CPC Fellowship Hall. We celebrated the victory of Aslan the Lion and his allies over the White Witch and her frozen spell over Narnia by retelling C.S.Lewis’ beloved story of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, traveling through the wardrobe to Narnia, and enjoying crafts, activities and treats (a taste of Turkish Delight?). Costumes were not required, but we had a few join as creatures of Narnia.
In 2020 we presented a virtual Christmas Pageant.
Confirmation Class
We offer Confirmation Class every other year, for youth in 8th grade and up. Our Confirmation Class is held on Sunday mornings, utilizing denominational curriculum. We enjoy creating new relationships with Confirmation Mentors and engaging in service projects as part of our learning. We celebrated the completion of last year’s confirmation class on June 12, 2022
Our youth are important to the ministry of our congregation. They assist with our live stream, design cards to send to our congregation and to Meals on Wheels, sing in the choir, and are integral to our church events. Our youth help make ministry happen at CPC and we thank you!
